Remote Pilot Licence
The DGCA licence required to operate a drone commercially in India — obtained by completing an approved training programme and passing the DGCA examination.
A Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) is the DGCA licence required under the Drone Rules 2021 to operate drones commercially in India in the Small (250 g–2 kg) and Medium (2–25 kg) categories. Flying without an RPL for commercial heritage documentation work is illegal.
To obtain an RPL, a candidate must complete a training programme at a DGCA-authorised Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO), accumulate the required flight hours, and pass the DGCA RPL examination. The examination covers air regulations, drone systems, meteorology and operational procedures.
