The Indian government authority that regulates all civil aviation including drones — responsible for the Drone Rules 2021, the Remote Pilot Licence and the Digital Sky platform.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is the regulatory body for civil aviation in India, operating under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. It is responsible for regulating all aspects of civil flying, including the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
The DGCA Drone Rules 2021 are the primary regulatory framework for drone operations in India. They require operators of commercial drones in the Small (250 g–2 kg) and Medium (2–25 kg) categories to hold a Remote Pilot Licence (RPL); register their aircraft on the Digital Sky platform; and obtain advance airspace permission for flights in Yellow and Red zones.
