NMA
The statutory body established under the AMASR Amendment Act 2010 to manage permissions for development within the regulated areas around ASI protected monuments.
The National Monuments Authority (NMA) is a statutory body established under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act 2010, functioning under the Ministry of Culture. Its primary responsibility is the regulation of development within the 100–300 m regulated areas around ASI centrally protected monuments.
Any construction, excavation or development activity within the regulated area (101–300 m from the protected limits of an ASI monument) requires prior permission from the NMA. The NMA reviews applications against heritage impact criteria and the recommendations of the relevant ASI circle, and either grants, modifies or refuses permission.
