As-Built Survey
A survey that records the dimensions and condition of a structure as it actually exists, rather than as it was designed — often the starting point for heritage documentation.
An as-built survey records a structure as it physically exists on the ground, capturing the actual dimensions, positions and conditions that may differ from the original design intent. For new construction, an as-built survey reconciles the constructed building against the design drawings. For historic buildings, the as-built survey is the primary record of the structure.
In heritage contexts, 'as-built' and 'measured survey' are often used interchangeably, though as-built survey has a slightly broader connotation — it includes not just measured dimensions but the record of all physical elements present, including later additions, modifications and repairs.
