Photogrammetry Capture Quality Checklist
Use during photogrammetric capture on heritage sites to ensure image quality, coverage and georeferencing are sufficient for professional-grade processing. Applicable to ground-based SfM, drone photogrammetry and close-range architectural photogrammetry.

Camera settings
ISO set to lowest acceptable for conditions — ISO 100–400 in good light
High ISO introduces noise that degrades feature matching in SfM processing
Shutter speed fast enough to eliminate motion blur — ≥ 1/500s for drone; ≥ 1/100s for ground
Check by zooming into captures on screen before proceeding with the full mission
Aperture set for depth of field covering the full subject depth — f/6.3–f/11 typical
White balance locked to a fixed value (not auto) for consistent colour across the dataset
RAW capture enabled if post-processing grading or exposure correction is planned
Coverage and overlap
Frontal overlap ≥ 80% confirmed in mission planning (drone) or by capture cadence (ground)
Side overlap ≥ 70% confirmed
Nadir (straight-down) images supplemented with 45° oblique images for rooftop and cornice detail
Difficult areas (deep reveals, underside of eaves, interior corners) captured with dedicated close-range passes
Scale bars or check measurements present in at least 2 images per area if GCPs are not used
Ground Control Points
Minimum 5 GCPs distributed across the full capture area — not clustered in one zone
GCPs measured with GNSS (RTK or post-processed) — accuracy < 30mm preferred
GCP targets clearly visible in at least 3–5 images each
At least 3 additional check points (not used in alignment) reserved for accuracy verification
On-site quality check
Representative images reviewed on site immediately after capture — reject and reshoot if blur, underexposure or coverage gaps found
